Staff Accountant (Construction)

Our client, a well-established and growing construction organization, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with construction industry experience and a strong understanding of union payroll, labor allocations, and job cost accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Reconcile general ledger, bank, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Support job cost accounting, project tracking, and WIP reporting.
  • Analyze project costs, labor expenses, and account variances.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management functions.
  • Process and review union-related accounting transactions, fringe benefits, and labor allocations.
  • Support audits and provide requested financial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP standards, and industry regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Experience working in a union environment, including union payroll reporting and benefit tracking.
  • Knowledge of job costing and construction accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to deta

Experience with construction and accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE (Timberline), Foundation Software, Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Procore, QuickBooks Enterprise, Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite, and payroll platforms including ADP, Paycom, or UKG is highly preferred. Candidates should also possess strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and XLOOKUP functions to support financial reporting, analysis, and reconciliation activities.
